Kusatsu Onsen: A Haven for Natural Hot Spring Therapy
“People from all over Japan and the world come to Kusatsu Onsen to heal their
ailments. The hot spring therapy known as "toji" (long-term hot spring treatment) is
famous, and many visitors stay for extended periods for their recovery.”

Natural Flow: The "Yubatake" (hot water field) in the town center has been
continuously producing hot spring water for nearly 1,000 years. It boasts the highest
natural flow in Japan, with over 32,000 liters of hot spring water per minute—
equivalent to about 230,000 oil drums each day.

Acidity: Kusatsu Onsen's water is highly acidic, with a pH level of 2.1. This makes it
one of Japan's most acidic hot springs.

Sterilizing Effect: Due to its strong acidity (pH 1.6-2.1), most bacteria and germs
cannot survive in Kusatsu's waters, making it highly effective for sterilization.

Health Benefits: The strong antibacterial properties of Kusatsu Onsen are beneficial
for wounds, chronic skin diseases, and neuralgia.
